ALIEF SUPER NEIGHBORHOOD MEETING
Minutes for Tuesday, June 24 , 2014

The regular monthly ASNC#25 meeting was held June 24, 7:00 PM, at the Centerpoint Energy Building, 12330 Bellaire Blvd.

PROGRAM:
Chairperson, Barbara Quattro, called the meeting to order at 7:00 P.M. Roll Call of Council members was done by sign-in sheet. A quorum was met later in the meeting (see attached).

GUESTS: Veronica Hernandez (COH Mayor’s office); Catherine Le (Congressman Al Green’s office; Richard Nguyen (COH District F); Alicia Hetz (Nextdoor,com); and representatives from AISD and several local HOA’s.

HOSPITALITY:–Hospitality was provided by HCC for this meeting and a thank you certificate was presented to them. Hospitality providers are encouraged to volunteer.

MOTIONS MADE:
• Vivien Sugar motioned to adjourn the meeting. Seconded by Mike Kreinsen. Motion passed

COMMITTEE & STANDING REPORTS

CHAIRS REPORT HPD dropped off a police report on Alief crime to pass around. Barbara Quattro noted that there are errors at the ASNC Wensite and vandalism had occurred at the garden in the form of cars running over the plots. She invited District F Councilman to address the audience. In addition, she noted that the Candidates Forum would take place in September instead of October.

TREASURER’S REPORT –Current balance $1845.53
ELECTIONS/NOMINATING COMMITTEE No input.
PROJECTS/SNAP COMMITTEE No input.

NEW BUSINESS
GUEST SPEAKER
Richard Nguyen, City Councilman, District F- Mr. Nguyen expressed his support for the Alief area/community and asked for suggestions for help from his office. Mr. Nguyen stated that he voted in favor of the recent Houston Equal Rights Ordinance (HERO). There are repeal petitions circulating. Issues he addressed included: cameras for illegal dumping, gameroom closings, punishment for tagging, gangs, after school programs, matching grants, and that $1M will be given to each councilmember to assist in their district needs for improvements/maintenance.

Nell Bradley, HCC Ms. Bradley briefly discussed efforts to encourage METRO to place a bus stop near the Bissonnet campus. There used to be one which was removed in 2007. She remarked that there are no sidewalks, a two-mile walk from the closest bus stop, and HCC enrollment has tripled creating a definite demand.

Alicia Hetz, Nextdoor.com Ms. Hetz presented an overview of the nextdoor site. The site is a way to encourage neighborhoods to stay in touch with neighbors through restricted email service which includes announcements, security, items for sale, uploading of flyers of interest. The meeting adjourned at 8:30 PM. Attendees were encouraged to talk to speakers and guests after the meeting
