ALIEF SUPER NEIGHBORHOOD MEETING
Minutes for Tuesday, June 23, 2009

Alief Super Neighborhood # 25 held its regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, June 23rd at 7:00 P.M. at the CenterPoint Energy Building, 12330 Bellaire Blvd.

PROGRAM:
Vice Chairman, Razi Asaduddin, called the meeting to order at 7:08 P.M. Anne Williams, alternate, conducted the Roll Call of council members. She announced a quorum was present. (See attached.)

Hospitality: Donated by Joey Chow, Candidate for District F Council Seat. Thanks were expressed for his support of the ASNC and the Alief community. A thank you certificate was presented.

INTRODUCTION OF GUESTS: HPD Capt M. E. Lentschke and six officers (Westside Command Station) as well as Willie Pratt, (Neighborhood Protection); City Councilman, M. J. Khan; Ernie McGowan (M. J. Khan’s office); Boy Scout Troop 1113 (Notre Dame), Catherine Le (Immigration, U. S. Congressman Al Green’s office); Veronica Hernandez (Mayors office Liaison); Shane Gao (City of Houston Planning Dept), and the following candidates for city council: Joseph Chow, Mike Laster, and Lewis Cook.

MOTIONS MADE:
1. Barbara Quattro to approve the April minutes. Seconded by Marie Lee. Council voted, motion passed.
2. Karen Loper to approve the May minutes. Seconded by Barbara Quattro. Council voted, motion passed
3. Mike Kreinsen to elect Anne Williams (SAVE Alief Stakeholder) as Secretary and Monique Pham as her assistant. Seconded by Karen Loper. Council voted, motion passed.
4. Razi motioned: to adjourn the meeting. Seconded by Anne Williams. Council voted, motion passed.

COMMITTEE & STANDING REPORTS –
CHAIRS REPORT –Razi Asaduddin noted that Monica Pham will be graduating and will announce her replacement to the Board. She said she will continue to support the ASNC. He also presented Dr. Stoerner with his membership certificate.

TREASURER’S REPORT – Barbara Quattro noted that the current balance was $3510.55. Bills paid include the PO box and domain website name. The refund check that Exxon lost has been rewritten.

ELECTIONS / NOMINATING COMMITTEE:-Anne Williams as secretary. She requested help to keep up the website. Razi Asaduddin volunteered to post calendar items to the ASNC website. Monique Pham volunteered to help with some of the other secretarial duties.

SECURITY/ INTERNATIONAL MANAGEMENT DISTRICT:-See Guest speakers.

ALIEF COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION – Mike Kreinsen said his committee is still working on the old Alief cemetery and recently watered trees. July 18th will be the next work day help is welcome. He announced a planning meeting for the Alief Parade July 8th. The parade will be September 26th. Marie Lee noted that she found a noose hanging from a tree at the cemetery. The police said to report such “hate crime” incidents to them.

TREE PLANTING Help is needed to water newly planted trees.

GUEST SPEAKERS: –
 M. J. Khan, Houston City Councilman District F. Councilman Khan stated that the budget for the 2.1 million population of the City of Houston had been passed. He also said that a budget plan was provided for five years out for guidance to future councils. The largest portion of the budget goes to City services such as police and firemen. Mr. Khan said he looks forward to the Alief Parade.
 HPD Capt M. E. Lentschke, Westside Command Station Ms. Lentschke introduced six officers and Neighborhood Protection officer, Willie Pratt. The officers included patrol officers Beckworth and Farmer; Community officers: Tyler and PrauseAdministration: Phillips; Shift Manager: Barber. She has been involved with the police dept. for 25 years and only recently transferred to Westside (effective June 1st). She noted a high graduation rate and quality of new recruits as well as upgraded computer systems accessible to units in the field. There will be an upcoming warrant sweep. Ms. Lentschke answered questions from the floor and outlined the parameters of the area.
 Brian Burkes, ASNC Safety and Security, International District: Brian spoke about the initiatives/services his office provides and briefly discussed the role of security (a zero tolerance unit) in the area. It consists of five constables and additional private security officers who will work in tandem with the Westside Command station officers. He handed out cards noting anyone could contact him regarding crime in the area (bburks@hhcllp.com). He said his office will handle graffiti and litter abatement. In addition, Brian announced they have hired a landscape company called Bio Landscape to do mowing, litter and sign removal in all the major corridors of the district (about 12 square miles.). He will also be locating/contacting owners of vacant lots with high weeds to clean them up. He answered questions from the floor. NEW BUSINESS

UPCOMING SPEAKERS – Kim Mathes, West Houston Health Center and Ricci Sanchez (Harris County Hospital District El Franco Lee Health Center in Alief (Boone Road) will be doing a session on Health Care.

PUBLIC SESSION
Public Session and Announcements.
 Anne Williams announced the S.A.V.E. Alief Health & Civic Resources Fair is scheduled for August 15th, at Alief Middle School on Cook Road. The next meeting will be the 30th at 5PM at Crump Stadium. People are encouraged to attend.
 Officer Beckworth complimented the International District’s security team.
 Marie Lee complimented the Westside patrol officers
 Mike Kreinsen announced the Planning meeting for the Alief Parade will be July 8th
 Karen Loper announced that the HPD person responsible for maintaining the breathalyzer machines erred and many cases of DUI will not be prosecuted.
 Flyers and a video called “Ready” and produced by the Dept. of Homeland Security regarding planning for the hurricane season were made available to attendees..

The next ASNC meeting will be held at 7:00 P.M. on the fourth Tuesday, July 28th at the Centerpoint building,
