ALIEF SUPER NEIGHBORHOOD MEETING
Minutes for Tuesday, February 23, 2010

Alief Super Neighborhood # 25 held its regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, February 23rd 7:00 P.M. at the CenterPoint Energy Building, 12330 Bellaire Blvd.

PROGRAM:
Chairman, Barbara Quattro, called the meeting to order at 7:00 P.M. Anne Williams, Secretary, conducted the Roll Call of council members. She announced a quorum was present. (See attached.)

Hospitality: No hospitality was provided for this meeting.

INTRODUCTION OF GUESTS: Derrick Neal (City of Houston); Daniel Markcon (NRP Group); Michael Nguyen (VN Teamwork); Michael Dunn (TX Dunn Consulting); Catherine Le (Al Green’s Office): Shen Gao (Houston Planning Dept.); Veronica Hernandez (Houston Mayor’s Citizen’s Assistance Office); Robin Blutt (Keep Houston Beautiful); Dawn Hurd (District F Councilman Al Hoang’s office); Rosalinda Martinez (2010 Census)

MOTIONS MADE:
1. Karen Loper: to approve the January minutes. Seconded: Mike Kreinsen. Council voted, motion passed.
2. Louis Stoerner: to write a letter supporting the VN Teamwork new senior housing project., Golden Bamboo Village II. Seconded: Karen Loper. Council voted, motion passed.
3. Karen Loper: to adjourn the meeting. Seconded: Mike Kreinsen. Council voted, motion passed.

COMMITTEE & STANDING REPORTS:

CHAIRS REPORT – Barbara Quattro discussed that Alief is not a clean, attractive area. We need to plan area clean-ups and tree plantings again.

TREASURER’S REPORT – Monique Pham, Treasurer, was absent, therefore, Barbara Quattro, chairman, reported the current balance is $3,405.55.

ELECTIONS/NOMINATING COMMITTEE.- A Certificate of Membership was given to board members Jenny Chau and Anne Williams. Position 11, Education Associations, has been represented by Susie Molina, from Houston Community College. Susie submitted her resignation, and introduced her replacement, Dr Jane Perez, from the HCC Alief campus.

SECURITY/ INTERNATIONAL MANAGEMENT DISTRICT:-

ALIEF COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION –Mike Kreinsen announced the next quarterly small business breakfast meeting on May 4th at 7AM (86 people attended the last meeting); the next annual parade meeting on March 10; and that Boy Scouts would be working on the cemetery again.

PROJECTS/SNAP COMMITTEE-.

TREE PLANTING –

GUEST SPEAKERS: –
 Robin Blut, Keep Houston Beautiful. Ms. Blut discussed the upcoming national great American cleanup in March through May, and asked for volunteers. Problems such as illegal dumping, especially in ditches were discussed. She explained the “Adopt-A-Ditch” Program: much like the Adopt a Block program. Groups or individuals can adopt an area and keep it cleaned up. The ditch in the 9600 block of Keegans Rd (between Bellfort and Bissonnet) is an on-going problem, which is continually cleaned up and re-littered, often with dangerous objects. They are pursuing the possibility of grant money for this project.

 VN Teamwork: Michael Nguyen, Bamboo Village Senior Housing Project. – discussed their plans for a new senior housing project called Golden Bamboo Village II. The first one, across from the Alief Community Park, near the Alief Post Office, is filled and running very successfully. This second one will be on Synott Rd., just north of Bellaire Blvd. They requested that the ASNC provide a letter supporting the project for Alief. They provided literature and drawings to those present and answered questions from the floor.

 Catherine Le reported Naval Academy applications for 9th -12th graders will be available
 National Annual Cleanup. Local Alief annual cleanup April 10
 Lion’s Club Pancake Breakfast at Applebee’s Restaurant (Westheimer, west of Highway 6) on March 27
 2010 Annual Census information is extremely important for our city, county, schools, state and nation. Please fill out and return your form as soon as possible. Funding for all the above depends on an accurate accounting of our population.

The next ASNC meeting will be held at 7:00 P.M. on the fourth Tuesday March 23, at the Centerpoint building. The meeting adjourned at 8:15 PM.
