ALIEF SUPER NEIGHBORHOOD MEETING
Minutes for Tuesday, April 27, 2010

Alief Super Neighborhood # 25 held its regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, April 27th, 7:00 P.M. at the CenterPoint Energy Building, 12330 Bellaire Blvd.

PROGRAM:
Chairman, Barbara Quattro, called the meeting to order at 7:04 P.M. She requested that cell phone be turned off. Anne Williams, Secretary, conducted the Roll Call of council members. She announced a quorum was present. (See attached.). Anne requested people to sign up for the ASNC email list.

Hospitality: Hospitality was provided by the Chinese Community Center. Thanks were expressed for their support of the ASNC and a certificate was presented.

ATTENDING OFFICALS & GUESTS: TX State Representative, the Honorable Hubert Vo; Alief CERT members: Dominick Adamo, Harry Bonk, Jr, Pagan Javier, and Sara Adamo; Natal Blevins (TX State Rep. Kristi Thibaut’s office); Sechen Sun (Chinese Community Center); Charles Tryals (Village Community Project); Mike Laster (Sharpstown Management District); Jackie Goodwater & Ken Smith (Alief Community Park/Center) Catherine Le (US Congressman Al Green’s Office): Sakina Lanig (TX state Senator Rodney Ellis’ office); Kerr High School students (supporting a new auditorium); City of Houston: Monticella Flaniken (Neighborhood Protection);Ana Shah (REEP Program);Vladimir Naranjo; Shen Gao (Planning Dept.); Veronica Hernandez (Mayor’s Citizen Assistance)

MOTIONS MADE:
1. Brian Burks: to approve the March minutes. Seconded: Mike Kreinsen. Council voted, motion passed.
2. Anne Williams: to spend $200 on food for the ASNC Town Hall Meeting (in lieu of the regular meeting) at Hastings. Seconded: Mike Kreinsen. Council voted, motion passed.
3. Brian Burks: to adjourn the meeting. Seconded: Marie Lee. Council voted, motion passed.

COMMITTEE & STANDING REPORTS –

CHAIRS REPORT –

TREASURER’S REPORT –Monique Pham, Treasurer, reported the current balance is $3330.90. The ASNC transferred the account to Tradition Bank.

ELECTIONS/NOMINATING COMMITTEE. A membership certificate was presented to new council member April Lord.

SECURITY/ INTERNATIONAL MANAGEMENT DISTRICT:- Brian Burks praised the CERT Program, and encouraged everyone to gt involved. He thanked Dominick Adamo for being very helpful and knowledgeable. The next training is scheduled for Thursday evenings from 6:30-9:30 PM starting June 24 thru August 12, at 11300 Wilcrest Green Drive. Brian can be reached at 832-851-0406.

ALIEF COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION –Mike Kreinsen announced the next quarterly small business breakfast meeting on May 4th at 7AM. The third annual parade will be on September 25th and the grand Marshall will be Sheriff Adrian Garcia. The next parade planning meeting is May 12thh. Marie Lee has been working with Al Green’s office to provide a luncheon July 8th for veterans at the Chapel of Eternal Peace/Forest Park..

PROJECTS/SNAP COMMITTEE-..

GUEST SPEAKERS: –

Ana Shah and Vladimir Naranjo of the City of Houston REEP program-discussed the opportunity for qualifying Alief homeowners to receive free energy reviews of their homes and subsequent minor repairs such as caulking and light bulbs. There is an income restriction. Application forms were made available.

Monticella Flanniken of the City of Houston Neighborhood Protection Dept. discussed the role of her department and how to contact them with complaints.

Jackie Goodwater and Ken Smith of the Alief Community Center and Park discussed the various programs offered at the center and ongoing improvements.

Hubert Vo, State Representative-announced that there will be a Public Safety Store front office in the International Shopping Center located on Bellaire Blvd., just west of Boone Rd. Chair, Barbara Quattro noted that the space has been donated by Representative Vo for the next five years.

CERT member Dominick Adamo discussed the role of the emergency response team and how to sign up. A Teen CERT program is also available. www.AliefCert.org

NEW BUSINESS
UPCOMING SPEAKERS – May: PUBLIC SAFETY MEETING at the Alief Hastings 9th Grade Center 7 PM

Public Session and Announcements.

 Kerr High School performing arts students requested financial support for a new auditorium at the school estimated to be $8-10 million
 April Lord announced that the West Houston Hospital expansion is on schedule with a maternity wing to open in September
 Kristi Thibaut’s office, in conjunction with the Houston Fire Department, will be handing out and/ or installing free smoke alarms May 1st in the Brays Village Subdivision.
 Senator Rodney Ellis and Representative Kristi Thibaut will be hosting an Open House Wednesday May 19th at 10613 Bellaire Blvd, Ste A-126

The next ASNC meeting will be held at 7:00 P.M. on the fourth Tuesday, May 25th, at the Hastings Ninth Grade Center on Cook Road. This will be a Public Safety Town hall meeting with various members of law enforcement officers as guest speakers.
The meeting adjourned at 8:40 PM.
