Meeting Minutes for October 22, 2019

The regularly scheduled meeting was convened at 6:30 pm by Chair Barbara Quattro in the Alief Community Center. Board members present were Ms. Quattro, Noreen Smith, Vice Chair, Douglas Smith, Treasurer and Cynthia Young, Secretary. Motion made and carried to accept the August meeting minutes.

Guests: Commander Mike Faulhaber, Westside Command, Dr. Lex Frieden, Metro Transit Authority, Candidates for District F, and District F office employees Anthony Freddie and Long Nguyen.

Alief Houston Police Department Report: Westside Command Center crime statistics for the Alief area were presented by Commander Faulhaber. There was a 2.6% decrease in violent crime. There were five homicides in the last 30 days. Locations, 10/5 Dairy Ashford, 10/5 Coventry Square, 10/9 Bissonnet and 10/12 unknown location. Home burglaries are down 31% so far this month. Sexual assaults: there was 1 this month. Game rooms are presenting a big problem. According to the officers, once these criminals are caught, they do not stay in jail very long and then they are right back on the street doing the same thing. Gangs are still very present in Alief. If you have stickers on your vehicle, you are a target. There are several anti-gang programs for children. You can look them up on the Mayors website.

Treasury Report: Doug Smith announced we have $7,540.59 in the account.

Program Speakers:
Dr. Lex Frieden with Metro Transit Authority indicated that Metro has served 116.8 million people. In conjunction with the proposed Bond, Metro had 54 community hearings, 1200 community meetings and 90 meetings with elective offices. Their projection for the upcoming year is as follows:
1. A new plan for traffic in the city.
2. Expanding Metro Rail to Hobby by Rapid Bus.
3. Repair all the older buses.
4. $1.25 to ride with discounts for disabled and military.
5. Having the first location in the Galleria area.

Several candidates for District F were present to introduce themselves. They are as follows:
