The regular monthly meeting of the ASNC #25 was held on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at 6:30 pm at the Alief Community Center on Bellaire Boulevard at Kirkwood.
Chairperson Barbara Quattro called the meeting to order at 6:40 pm.
Officers from HPD’s Westside Command presented crime statistics for our area. Unfortunately, there were two murders over the preceding thirty days within the ASNC’s boundaries. In addition, burglary of motor vehicles (BMV) statistics have increased by 26.8% and auto thefts were up by 28.6%. On the positive side, other crimes (aggravated assault, burglary of habitation, burglary of buildings) were down.
Treasurer Doug Smith reported that we have $3,631.84 in our bank account.
Speaker:
Dr. Zachary Hodges, President of the Houston Community College Northwest College, made opening remarks and introduced Neeta Sane, Trustee for our area. He also introduced Dr. Kurt Ewen, HCC vice chancellor for planning and institutional effectiveness.
HCC is reaching out to the community for input in determining the community’s educational needs. Dr. Ewen outlined HCC’s ongoing strategic planning for the next ten years. The theme chosen to guide this planning process is to consider the question “How will HCC embrace our city’s future”? Dr, Ewen asked the audience to consider the following: What does Houston’s future look like? What kind of degrees, programs, certificates, and services will Houstonians look to us to provide? How can we magnify the many things that we do so well as an institution, and how can we improve things that we want to change?
The College currently has an enrollment of 105,000 students who span diverse backgrounds, age groups, and educational requirements. Community input will continue at meetings throughout CY 2019.
