Meeting Minutes for July 26, 2022

The regularly scheduled meeting was convened at 6:32 pm by Chair Barbara Quattro.

Board members present were Ms. Quattro, Cynthia Young, Secretary and Doug Smith, Treasurer.

HPD Representatives: Officer Tim Whitaker, Sr. Officer Tommy Harris, and Sr. Officer Tony Robertson with Westside Command.

Houston Police Department Report: Westside Command Center crime statistics for the Alief areawere presented by Officer Tim Whitaker.

 

Statistical Summary:

 

•         Murder down 100% •         Burglary of Buildings up 40%
•         Violent crime up 6.49% •         Burglary of Vehicles up 30.26%
•         Sexual Assault same number as last month 2 •         Murder down 100%
•         Robbery up 80% •         Theft of vehicles down 20%
•         Aggravated Assault down 23.64%    

Treasury Report: We currently have $12,165.92.

Program Speakers:

  • Yaneth Calderon with Resilient Houston: Discussion regarding a holistic approach with a Climate Action Plan. The plan establishes how the city will achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, using Transportation, Building Optimization, Energy Transition and Materials Management.
  • Brad Mushinski with Commissioner R. Jack Cagle’s Office : Brad discussed the recent County redistricting, a potential new senior center in the current Kirkwood library location and our request for the County to build and maintain a year-round (indoor) pool.  Brad also announced that Commission Cagle has committed $2 million for tree planting in Alief.  The 21st annual OPRY will take place August 19, from 7-9:30 PM at the L.D. Robinson Pavilion.

Announcements:

  • The new community center is projected to be complete by November 2022.
