Meeting Minutes for February 28, 2023

The regularly scheduled meeting was convened at 6:35 pm by Chair Barbara Quattro. Board members
present were Doug Smith, Treasurer, and Cynthia Young, Secretary.

Alief Houston Police Department Report: Westside Command Center crime statistics for the Alief
area. Crime statistics are as follows:
 19.18% decrease in violent crime  79.31% increase theft of an auto
 83.3% decrease sexual assault  29.23% increase theft from an auto
 18.75% decrease aggravated assault  30.68% increase non-violent crime
 13.63% decrease home invasion  12.50% decrease invasion on buildings

Speaker: Jim Murphy, Westchase District-
Mr. Murphy presented a slide show showing an upcoming event as well as completed and upcoming
projects in the neighboring Westchase District.
 During the week of spring break, Woodchase Park will have family-friendly events including
dance, exercise, and educational programs.
 New trails
 Installation of a new sidewalk from Kirkwood to Tanglewilde on Westheimer
 Camden Park project slated to have movie nights, a dog washing station, 30 installations of art
by local artisans, exercise stations, performance area and space for food trucks
 Meadowglen reconstruction at Rogerdale.

Jesus Zamora, Harris County Precinct 4 Community Engagement Coordinator: Stated that
Precinct 4 is working on the $2 million ARPA tree grant and the 1 st step work shop.

Veronica Hernandez, Mayor’s Assistance Office Assistance: Veronica will be working at the Alief
Neighborhood Center twice a week assisting residents who need housing, rent help, etc. There are
presently 600 seniors that have registered at the senior center.

Ivan Sanchez, candidate for City Council, District J: Announced that he will donate $1000 to the
ASNC tree planting program.

Council Member Tiffany Thomas, District F: The Council Member stated her concern with public
safety at the community center. In the previous week, there were over 50 kids fighting at 4:45pm. She
actually broke up the fight three times. It appears that assigned Park Rangers are not there enough nor
at the right time of day that teens are present. There is no after school patrol. She is working to correct
this.

Na’Shon Edwards, Council District F: Introduced the new Director of Communications for District F,
Ken Elmur. He also discussed the City’s 311 program.
